THE TWELVE OLYMPIANS
Krisandra A. Mariano

Zeus is high and mighty,
                With his cloak of duty,
He sits on his mighty throne,
Upon it he is always known.
Hera, O queen,
Your face is like a dream,
Wisest of your sisters,
You became the greatest of their kind.
O lord of the sea,
Guide the sailors to their homes,
Thine underwater palace gleams,
Of gold it is made, it seems.
The earth is your garden,
                Dear lady Demeter,
For behold the Earth,
Lo! It is filled with spring.
Dearest Huntress,
                Armed with bow and arrow,
You hunt down only the fiercest enemies,
Yet your compassion for the forest is
                                 beyond imagination.
On speedy wings he comes,
                Hermes son of Zeus,
Deliver my message,
So that my wish may be fulfilled.
Swords and spears from celestial bronze,
Your home is laden with weapons,
Hephaestus you dwell in your forge,
Your lady is a beauty.
A war rages afar,
                Someone is laughing with delight,
He is Ares, god of war,
                His anger is beyond compare.

The wisest of all,
Virgin daughter of Metis,
Your words are spoken well,
 Crafty goddess of wisdom Athena.

The sun’s rays enlighten me,
The lyre’s music makes me drowsy,
The poem fills me with delight,
Shining lord Apollo.

The smell of wine is strong,
He who dwells in vineyards,
At feasts he is present,
The drunken god Dionysus.

Her beauty is immense,
Her eyes are like gems,
Her pretty lips are roses,
Her splendor-clad face is that of the goddess of love herself.
